Sundance’s first kayak school of 2011!

Last year, we were excited, this year, we're ecstatic to bring in the new season!

Welcome to another exciting season with Sundance Kayak School!

Sundance is pleased to announce that we are officially open for business, launching our first school of the season, an 8 day beginner kayak school on the amazing Rogue River! With an above average snow pack, and Lost Creek Reservoir full to the brim, the Rogue is looking to have great flows all summer! We’re excited to welcome another season full with the promise of whitewater.

We are proudly offering beginning and intermediate multi-day kayak schools, each of which focuses on the advancement of each individual kayaker. Whether looking to pick up the sport or to hone your skills, our instructors are sure to help you reach your goals this summer.

We are excited to have some old students (who we now call friends) from past seasons and eagerly welcome new folks to the school!

We operate out of the beautiful and historic Riverhouse Lodge, (which happens to be the birthplace of Sundance). The wonderful owners provide luxury accommodations and a scenic, relaxing atmosphere for students during the first few days of their kayaking odyssey.

Our lovely hosts at the Riverhouse Lodge

This is as much a first class river experience, akin even to a luxury vacation, as it is an educational adventure.

After a long day of kayak instruction, sit back, relax, and enjoy the river views from the Riverhouse.

This year we have added some brand new boats to our fleet, including Villains and Heroes by Jackson Kayak. We have new Player paddles from Werner, and awesome new spray skirts courtesy of Immersion Research.

Gear aside, we pride ourselves in the fun way we teach students to kayak. The Sundance Curriculum is committed to providing students with the tools, strategies, and mindset necessary to put them in complete control. We use classroom presentations combined with on-the-river exercises to develop proper technique. In this way, students go through a manageable progression, which ensures boating success.

Students come away not only with an ability to kayak, but also with a deeper understanding of the river and the necessary skills to pursue kayaking on their own.

Kayaking through Mule Creek Canyon towards the end of the trip. The Rogue is a natural classroom for progression-based kayaking as it has a natural difficulty gradient.

We focus on having fun as a vehicle for becoming better kayakers. This mantra is embodied in our new motto: Play the River. Our professional staff are more than ready to help you understand the idea and in the process embrace your love for kayaking.

We ♥ kayaking. We hope that you do too.

Our schools are about learning to kayak. But they're also about having fun!

From all of us here at Sundance Kayak School, we can’t wait to see you all on the river!

Sincerely,

J.R. Weir

About JR

JR's enthusiasm for life readily extends to all things whitewater and at Sundance, we consider him the guru of everything kayak. He spends his summers on the Rogue River as an awesome kayak instructor and during the off season, he gravitates toward any body of water that will give him some thrill. He tends to surround himself with others that share the same passion.
